Hello, and welcome to my carrd! This is a single muse and 18+ blog based around the new 52 version of Barton Mathis, or The Dollmaker. It's also private which means that I will only interact with those who are following me and who I am following back if you're not familiar with the term. However, one type of account that I will never interact with is 'gender-bent' blogs. Now I would like to inform everyone of some basic rules that I will be applying to this account, so do look over these before you decide to interact with me.First and foremost, I would like to introduce myself: My name is Autumn and my pronouns are she/her! I am 22 and just to let you all know, I will only be semi-active on this account. So, if I do not reply to a chain immediately, I promise it's not because I'm ignoring you. I am a full-time college student and because of that, my life can get pretty hectic. But I will try my best to get back to everyone asap. However, If a week has passed and I still haven't replied, you can message me about it. I'm also okay with roleplaying things with heavy topics; though some thing's that I will NEVER roleplay include inc/st and r/pe.Secondly, Barton's story will involve discussions of forced medical procedures, serial killings, cannibalism, emotional manipulation/abuse, alcohol abuse, and mental illness, so if you believe that any of those topics may serve as a trigger for you... I would advise avoiding interacting with me. Though, if you'd like to still do so under your own discretion, I will include tags for triggering topics like these examples on my tumblr under the tag tw: (insert topic here).I thought I'd also make a note about canon character interactions here. If you have, or are planning to create a character that is in the Mathis family, I would LOVE to write with you -- one example of this would be Barton's daughter, Matilda Mathis, or Dollhouse. But my Barton is canon divergent in the way that he not only has her as his biological child in my verse, but Orifice (Louis) as well, and has adopted Jack + Bentley. Thus, he has a pretty big family in my verse, and just to confirm: the incident that involved him cutting off the Joker's face does remain in my verse. Though of course, if I am roleplaying with a joker who is not new 52 based, you don't have to go along with that and we can create an entirely new dynamic between our characters.Thirdly, God-modding. Don't do it. On another note, I am willing to write with different depictions of the same character. So please don't be scared to reach out to me if you'd like to interact! I would also like to get more practice with writing lit roleplays, but the length of replies doesn't really matter to me. They can be long or short (Though I will typically write at least one to two paragraphs for mine if that matters to you all).

I will not be using icons or any special formatting in my replies, personally. But feel free to if you want. The only thing that I ask is for you all to not use super small text when responding to me (I have vision problems) and we'll be all good.As for shipping, do not try to force a ship with my character. I will be semi-selective whenever it comes to both romantic and platonic relationships for Barton. This is just due to the nature of his character, as he's not a very trusting person in general, and because of his role as a rogue; so although plotting is not required for anyone to interact with me, if you're looking to develop a more deep relationship with him regarding your character, then I'd recommend it.Also, I'd just like to talk about this briefly as I also feel its relevant to my rules. And that's that, if you wish to curate your space by blocking me if we had been following each other for a time before, then of course that's totally fine! The only ask I have is that you please hard-block me. I also promise this isn't to make anyone's life harder. I just find that with how glitchy tumblr can be at times, that if people soft-block me... then it can lead to confusion on my part as to why I'm not following someone anymore. This is because it would leave room for me to think that tumblr could've made us unfollow each other, and so I'd rather be clear that someone wishes to not interact anymore that way.Lastly, if you'd like to drop a thread because you're not sure where to go with it/you don't have a lot of muse/any other reason, then let me know and we can totally do that. This is something that happens to everyone, so I'm more than willing to be accommodating concerning it. BARTON MATHIS, or THE DOLLMAKER, is a medical doctor who also has come to play a role in one of Gotham's most grisly underground businesses -- the organ trade -- and endows people with a more, quote unquote, 'picturesque appearance' in order to make them more perfect. This was born partially due to the kind of environment he grew up in. As a child, Barton's biological father (otherwise known as Wesley Mathis), taught him that other people's flaws aren't something to be proud of and that they should be fixed. He also took Barton along with him on hunting trips where he would kill people and then eat them. Meanwhile, he would also coerce Barton to join him in the foul act of cannibalization. This would continue until Barton was about eight years old and a young Jim Gordon shot Wesley down in front of him after finding them on one of their so-called 'trips.' Following this event, Barton was placed in an orphanage and he lived there for about a year before running away from the establishment. And he kept on running until he reached Metropolis.Through a chance meeting, he then met Winslow Schott, who would go on to become his surrogate father. After spending most of the remainder of his childhood and his teenage years there enrolled in school, Barton met Marceline, his now late fiancée and dated her throughout high school -- eventually getting so close to her that he proposed to her succeeding their graduated and they had two children together. With the help of Barton's biological father's influence on his impressionable young mind and his return to Gotham, he soon decided to act upon the twisted philosophy that had developed in his mind regarding the belief that people needed someone to make them more perfect. And so Barton came to actively begin to start practicing illegal body modifications/surgeries on those he pleased. Contemporarily, due to a unnatural urge to carry his bio father with him, he stitched together a mask for himself made from various pieces of the deceased's own face. Adding onto his family by adopting several children was his next move and thus, his persona of THE DOLLMAKER was now fully formed. (All whilst having every intention of getting his revenge against the man who took everything from him; Jim Gordon).

  • 03.08.1993 ⁄ 8 years old This is the day that Wesley Mathis, or Barton's biological father, was killed by a young cop named Jim Gordon while on one of the many 'hunting trips' he forced Barton to occupy him on. He was orphaned after this incident and was subsequently placed into a children's home. But after just one year of being there, he disappeared.

  • 04.03.1994 ⁄ 9 years old At this point, nearly a month had passed since Barton had ran away from the orphanage he was placed in, and he finally accomplished his goal of getting out of Gotham. After arriving in Metropolis, Barton collapses outside of what he would come to know as the Toyman's workshop. Winslow then proceeded to take him in as he was injured and starving. Once he nursed him back to health, Barton revealed to him that he had nowhere else to go; and so Winslow would allow Barton to stay with him. (Which led to him becoming a surrogate father figure for Barton).

  • 08.30.1998 ⁄ 14 years old Barton meets Marceline Kohler, who he started to date during high school and would later get engaged to at 18.

  • 06.10.2004 / 18 years old At 19, Marceline had fraternal twins with Barton. Both of them would go on to be named Matilda and Louis Mathis, respectively.

  • 10.16.2004 / 18 years old Barton's fiancée, Marceline, dies after being diagnosed with a severe case of pneumonia a few weeks earlier. Barton suffers through a period of extreme grief because of this.

  • 07/21/2008 / 22 years old The final members of the Mathis family are brought into it, with the adoption of Jack, Bentley, and Julien. At this time, Barton's interest in a twisted form of body modification was born through the discovery of it in college and he starts to practice his skills on willing, but misled patients in an effort to 'perfect' them.

  • 11/8/2011 / 26 years old While in his last year of medical school, Barton's mental health takes a turn for the worse and his compulsion to 'fix' people takes full force of his mind. Along with performing illegal body modifications, he begins to perform surgery and through an incident he caused with a patient that caused their death, Barton also discovers he has a 'darkness' within him that makes him want to do it again.

  • 01/19/2014 / 29 years old Barton meets his former boss through a man who wishes to use his medical knowledge to fulfill a cruel plot that gets him involved in the business of organ trafficking. From there, Barton gathers up pieces of his deceased father's face and stitches them together to fashion a mask out of them: effectively creating his persona of THE DOLLMAKER.

  • 02/04/2015 / 30 years old Following his introduction to the underground, Barton had successfully become a part of it through his former boss with organ trafficking and the making of his own warped idea of 'dolls,' as well as performing sadistic body modifications on people. Barton Mathis has become THE DOLLMAKER.

MAIN VERSE (NEW 52 BASED)

BARTON MATHIS is a practicing medical doctor that owns a clinic near the docks, which you might say, is a bit of a peculiar place to have one. But he does specialize in serving a particularly dangerous clientele (criminals). Barton is good at keeping his business discrete, though, so you won't be hearing about that in the headlines. He is also a career criminal who went from being under the thumb of his former boss, to being his own boss, and plays an active role in the black market through organ trafficking. In between that and his 'doll-making,' he has built a family of his own: and he's convinced himself that he'd do most anything for them. However, the truth of the matter is, Barton is certainly not the good man nor the good father that he tries to portray himself to be to the public.

MATT REEVES VERSE

Just like in his main verse, Barton is a licensed MD and is going by the moniker of the dollmaker whilst operating as a doctor for Gotham's underground. However, whenever it comes to his son Julien's fate, his death had occurred due to a 'mission' gone wrong and due to the fact that he wanted to save his younger brother — jack — from drowning. And because of this, the grief that Barton holds towards Julien's death is different, as he was in the same place that he died when it happened; only he couldn't reach Julien in time to save him because he was desperately trying to survive the ordeal himself. Another way in which this verse varies from the original is that Barton had worked at Gotham General for several years up until he became the Dollmaker. Barton uses this to his advantage as he had falsified documents stating that he still works there to this day, to avoid entities such as law enforcement questioning him. He doesn't want them to know that he mainly serves criminals after all.

NON-VILLAINOUS VERSE

In this verse, instead of being stuck with his father taking him on the depraved 'hunting trips' he had to endure at a young age, the incident that caused Lena Mathis to leave Gotham didn't happen. And as such, she builds up a case against his father to take sole custody of him; which ultimately leads to Wesley's arrest and Barton going to live with his mother. He still does become a doctor in this verse, but Barton isn't plagued with the same compulsion to 'fix' things that he is in my main verse. He became a pediatrician in order to help children and got the help he needed in regards to learning how to heal from the verbal/emotional abuse he experienced while he was with his father. So all in all, he is in a much better spot and is not a part of Batman's rogues gallery.
